Sapele wood, derived from the sapele tree (Entandrophragma cylindricum), possesses several distinctive tree and wood properties that contribute to its popularity and versatility in various applications. The tree is a large, deciduous tree native to tropical regions of Africa, particularly found in countries such as Nigeria, Cameroon, and Ivory Coast. This hardwood exhibits a medium to dark reddish-brown color, often with a reddish or purplish hue. The wood’s color deepens and develops an attractive patina with age and exposure to light.
These trees can grow to heights of 100 to 150 feet (30 to 45 meters) and has a trunk diameter of 3 to 5 feet (0.9 to 1.5 meters). Also has an attractive straight to interlocked grain pattern, contributing to the visual appeal of the wood
